The Saddest Boy in the World is the second short film from Modern Family Productions. A bleakly comedic extension of the themes in their award-winning Why the Anderson Children Didn’t Come to Dinner, Saddest Boy follows young Timothy Higgins as he reflects on the many reasons he is compelled to hang himself at his ninth birthday party. A world premiere at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival garnered the film rave reviews—The Torontoist called the film “a miniature masterpiece”; Toronto Sun critic Bruce Kirkland called it “cruelly funny” and included director Jamie Travis in his list of revelations at the festival; and Sameer Vasta from BlogTO called it “hands-down the best short film I have ever seen.” The Saddest Boy in the World has now screened across Canada, the US, Europe and Australia, picking up awards and receiving consistently great reviews.
